Thrayanthyadi kashayam is an Ayurvedic medicine for many inflammatory diseases from herpes to cholecystitis. Nowadays this formulation is used in many carcinoma conditions.

Benefits of Trayantyadi kashayam

  • It is used in the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases where warm red pustules and burning sensations are present.
  • Beneficial in chicken pox, pemphigus vulgaris, and diabetic wounds.

Ingredients of Trayantyadi kashayam

Himalayan gentian Thrayanthi Gentiana kurroo ROYLE.

It has anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and immune-modulatory properties.

Triphala – is a group of fruits of three plants namely, Pathya Aksha and Dhatri.

Chebulic myrobalan Pathya Terminalia chebula RETZ. & WILLD. 

It is one of the main drugs in Ayurveda, one of the Rasayana, and a member of an important group, Triphala. It is used in a wide variety of diseases as it possesses anti-bacterial anti-fungal anti-viral anti-diabetic anti-mutagenic anti-oxidant anti-ulcer and wound-healing properties.

 Beleric myrobalan, Bahera Aksha Terminalia bellirica (GAERTN.) ROXB. 

A very good healer of gastric diseases, the common cold, leukoderma, and also cure digestive disorders. It has laxative and anti-inflammatory actions. It is one of the important ingredients in Triphala an Ayurvedic preparation. Other properties for which it is used are as a health tonic and as a rejuvenator. It is used in the treatment of piles also.

 Amla, Indian gooseberry Dhatri Emblica officinalis GAERTN.  

It is one of the main drugs in Ayurveda, one of the Rasayana, and a member of an important group, Triphala. It is used in a wide variety of diseases as it possesses anti-bacterial anti-fungal anti-viral anti-mutagenic, anti-ulcer, and wound-healing properties. It exhibits strong antioxidant activity. It is also famous for its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective actions. It is widely used as a natural remedy for type 2 diabetes.

 Margosa, Neem Nimba Azadirachta indica A. JUSS. 

The important health benefits of this drug include its ability to treat dandruff, soothe irritation, protect the skin, boost the immune system, and reduce inflammation. It also speeds up wound healing, treats gastric conditions, slows the aging process, improves hair and scalp health, maintains sexual organ health, has anti-cancer potential, and helps treat diabetes.

Yellow gentian, Hellebore Katuka Picrorhiza kurroa 

It is used for Dyspepsia, fever, and in purgatives. Although it shows anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities, it is most valued for its hepatoprotective effect.

Liquorice Madhuka Glycyrrhiza glabra L. 

It has anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-malarial, anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-hyperglycaemic and hepato-protective properties.

Indian jalap/Turpeth root Thrivrth Operculina turpethum L.

It is used to treat fever, oedema, ascites, anorexia, constipation, hepatosplenomegaly, intoxication, piles, fistula, anemia, obesity, abdominal tumors, ulcers/wounds, worm infestation, pruritus, and other skin disorders. It is the best among the herbs used for therapeutic purgation in Ayurveda.

Pointed gourd Patola Trichosanthes dioica Roxb. 

It has ant-diabetic, hepato-protective, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and wound-healing properties. It has anti-oxidants. It is useful in lowering cholesterol and skin diseases. It acts as a laxative. Lentil Masoora Lens culinaris It becomes sweet after digestion and cools the body. It is useful in fever, bleeding disorders, painful urination, and gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders.

Details of the manufacturing

As already discussed, Thrayanthyadidi kashayam has 10 ingredients.

All these ingredients should be washed well and dried up in the shade. Take an equal quantity of all ingredients in dried & crushed form in an earthen pot. Now add 16 times clean water into it. Make it boil and then cook in the open vessel with low fire. Reduce the quantity to one by eight of the initial quantity. Make sure to mix it in between with a wooden ladle. Also, the fire should be kept low to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the water. Once the quantity is reduced to one by-eighth of the initial amount of water, remove the vessel from the fire. Squeeze and drain through a clean white cloth. Collect the decoction in a clean vessel and discard the solid waste. Drink the mild warm decoction.

Dosha Dooshya Predominance with roga margas .

Thrayanthyadi kashayam is Pitta-kaphahara and anulomana. It acts on antar, bahir and madhyama rogamargas.

Dosage and Usage :

two Pala.

Usage: Kashayam is advised to take in an empty stomach, once the ingested food is digested well and aahaararasa is formed well. Usage of kashayam with prescribed prakshepadravyas according to the condition of the disease and the patient gives the best results mostly.

Exercises and Yoga .

As Thrayantyadi kashayam targets mainly GIT, following stretching exercises and specific yoga asanas like pavanamuktasana, vajrasana, bhujangasana etc for the abdomen and spine are recommended.

Regular exercise helps improve the bioavailability of the medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health. Yoga can maintain harmony within and with surroundings. Pavanamuktasana Vajrasana Bhujangasana All the exercises and physical exertions must be decided and done under the supervision of a medical expert only.

Recommended diet and behavior

Diet:

  • To be avoided Heavy meals and difficult-to-digest foods – cause indigestion.
  • junk foods- cause disturbance in digestion and reduces the bioavailability of the medicine
  • carbonated drinks – make the stomach more acidic and disturb digestion
  • refrigerated and frozen foods – cause weak and sluggish digestion by weakening agni (digestive fire)
  • curd – causes vidaaha and thereby many other diseases

To be added Light meals and easily digestible foods

Green gram, soups, buttermilk boiled with turmeric, ginger, and curry leaves freshly cooked and warm food processed with cumin seeds, ginger, black pepper, ajwain, etc

Behaviour:

  • Better to avoid exposure to excessive sunlight wind rain, or dust.
  • Avoid lifting heavy weights and other vigorous physical activities.
  • Maintain a regular food and sleep schedule.
  • Avoid sitting continuously for a long time.
  • Avoid a sedentary lifestyle.

Side effects and contraindications

No known side effects were reported.

Contraindications People with IBS or a sensitive stomach may develop diarrhoea when not supervised by a qualified Ayurveda physician.
