PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF BLEPHARITIS

In the initial stage of blepharitis there is bacterial colonization of the eyelids, leads to direct invasion of microbes. Due to the microbial invasion following pathological changes are manifested.

  • Immune system-mediated damage
  • Damage caused by the production of bacterial toxins, waste products, and enzymes.
  • Colonization of the lid margin is increased in the presence of seborrheic dermatitis or meibomian gland dysfunction.

 DIAGNOSIS OF BLEPHARITIS

  • Swabbing skin for detecting the presence of bacteria, parasites, or fungi
