Boerhaavia diffusa is a weed found throughout India. Roots contain the rotenoids, boeravinones A1, B1, C2, D, E, and F beside the dihydroisofurenoxanthin and boerhavine.
It was found to stop intra-uterine-contraceptive-device (IUCD)-induced bleeding. This herb is also known for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, which are comparable to those of ibuprofen. It has also proved useful as a hematinic.
The roots, leaves, and different extracts exhibited many pharmacological properties. It is a diuretic, anti-inflammatory, stomachic, laxative, myocardial stimulant, antibacterial and antiviral. It is useful in asthma, anemia, jaundice, ascites, anasarca, scanty urine, internal inflammation, and as an antidote for snake venom.
