SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF CHOLECYSTITIS  

  • Febbre
  • Chills
  • Sweating
  • Stanchezza
  • Yellow discolouration in the skin, mucous membrane, sclera
  • Right abdominal pain

  • Belching
  • Pain in the shoulder

 

CAUSES OF CHOLECYSTITIS  

  • Gallstones
  • Obstruction in the bile duct
  • Infezioni
  • Tumour
  • Reduced blood flow to the gall bladder

 

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF CHOLECYSTITIS  

The major cause of cholecystitis is the formation of gall stones that block the bile duct. If there is increased cholesterol secretion and decreased bile acid secretion, supersaturation of bile occurs. This leads to the precipitation of secretions along with cholesterol in the gall bladder gradually gall stones are manifested.

DIAGNOSIS OF CHOLECYSTITIS  

  • Blood test
  • Liver function test
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Abdominal ultrasonography (ultrasound)
  • Computerized tomography (CT) scan, or computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan

TREATMENTS FOR CHOLECYSTITIS  

  • Treatment of underlying pathology
  • Surgery(Cholecystectomy)
  • Antibiotics to control infections
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs and analgesics

 

PROGNOSIS OF CHOLECYSTITIS  

  • Prognosis is based on the degree of the obstruction in the duct and the condition of the patient

COMPLICATIONS OF CHOLECYSTITIS  

  • Gall bladder tissue damage
  • Perforation of gall bladder
  • Spreading of infections

CHOLECYSTITIS AND AYURVEDA

  • In Ayurveda, cholecystitis is managed based on the treatment principle of ‘rudhapadha kamala’ and ‘pittasmari’.
  • It is considered a yakrit vikara.

 

NIDANA- AYURVEDIC CAUSES OF CHOLECYSTITIS  

  • Excess consumption of sour food
  • Excess aggravation of pitta dosha
  • Rudhapadha – obstruction in the bile duct

  • Asymptomatic in early stages

  • In the case of rudhapadha kamala there is an obstruction in the bile duct, who eliminates faeces resembling the paste of sesame seed, the path of pitta being blocked by kapha.
