Mahathraiphala ghrutham is an Ayurvedic medicine for eye diseases. It is considered as the best medicine for eye diseases.

The formulation of Mahathraiphalaghrutham is explained as a ghrita yoga in Ashtangahrudayam Uttarasthanam for eye diseases. It is useful in many inflammatory conditions 0f the eye.

It is used in the treatment of many stages of cataract, tunnel vision, retinitis pigmentosa, etc.

Mahathraiphala ghrutham is mostly used as samanasneha in small doses after having Kashaya or other rookshana medicines for a while. It is used as the vyadhivipareeta medicine after the rookshana (drying up) therapies.

It is also used as acchasnehapana as a preparatory procedure to Ayurvedic Panchakarma (cleansing therapy) and used in external therapies like tarpana.

Mahathraiphala ghrutham being pacifying Pitta dosha, it is used in many eye diseases where inflammation is evident.

Réglisse Yashtimadhuka/ Yashtyahwa

 

Glycyrrhiza glabra L.

 

Il possède des propriétés antibactériennes, antioxydantes, antipaludiques, antispasmodiques, anti-inflammatoires, antiulcéreuses, antivirales, antifongiques, antihyperglycémiques et hépato-protectrices.

 

Purple roscoea lily Kakoli Roscoea purpurea Sm./ Roscoea procera Wall

 

It is a general tonic. Sweet in taste and cold in potency, it improves strength of the body. It can be used in the treatment of diabetes, hypertension, diarrhoea, fever, male infertility, leucorrhoea and many types of inflammation.

Morelle jaune Vyaghri/Kantakari Solanum xanthocarpum

Il a des activités antioxydantes et anticancéreuses. Elle possède des propriétés anti-asthmatiques, hypoglycémiques, hépatoprotectrices, antibactériennes et insectifuges.

Poivre long Pippali/Krishna Piper longum

Il a une action carminative et peut être utilisé comme apéritif. Le fruit et la racine de Pippali sont utilisés sous forme de poudre pour traiter la fièvre, la diarrhée, les hémorroïdes, la toux, le hoquet, l'asthme, l'enrouement, les flatulences, les coliques, les vomissements, les gastrites acides, les œdèmes, les maladies de la bouche, les maladies des yeux, les maladies du sperme, les maladies féminines, la jaunisse et les maux d'oreille.

Le Pippali mélangé à du miel soulage la toux, la dyspnée, la fièvre, la splénomégalie et le hoquet.

Water lily Utpala Nymphaea nouchali Burm.f.

 It is rich in anti-oxidants and a very good diet for diabetes mellitus. It has anti-oxidant, aphrodisiac, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-hepatotoxic properties.

Raisins noirs Mridweeka/Draksha Vitis vinifera L.

Le raisin est un fruit nourrissant et légèrement laxatif qui peut soutenir l'organisme en cas de maladie, en particulier du tractus gastro-intestinal et du foie. La teneur en nutriments du raisin étant proche de celle du plasma sanguin, le jeûne au raisin est recommandé pour la désintoxication. Le fruit frais est antilithique, constructif, rafraîchissant, diurétique et fortifiant. Le fruit est également utile dans le traitement des varices, des hémorroïdes et de la fragilité capillaire. Le fruit séché est démulsifiant, rafraîchissant, légèrement expectorant, laxatif et stomachique. Il a un léger effet sur la toux. Il est utilisé comme remède pour les maladies de la peau et des yeux. 

Thriphala-a group of 3 drugs namely,  

Myrobalan Chebulic Pathya Terminalia chebula RETZ. & WILLD.

It is one of the main drugs in Ayurveda, one of the Rasayana and a member of an important group, Triphala. It is used in a wide variety of diseases as it possesses anti-bacterial anti-fungal anti-viral anti-diabetic anti-mutagenic anti-oxidant anti-ulcer and wound-healing properties.

 

Beleric myrobalan, Bahera Aksha Terminalia bellirica (GAERTN.) ROXB.

 

A very good healer of gastric diseases, common cold, leukoderma and also cures digestive disorders. It has laxative and anti-inflammatory actions. It is one of the important ingredients in triphala an Ayurvedic preparation. Other properties for which it is used are as health tonic and as rejuvenator. It is used in treatment of piles also.

Amla, Indian gooseberry Dhatri Emblica officinalis GAERTN.

Amla exhibits strong antioxidant activity. It is one of the most important plants in the traditional Ayurvedic medical system as well as in other traditional health systems for immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer and hepatoprotective actions. It is widely used for anti-diabetic effect.It is a part of the famous group of drugs called Thriphala. 

Adathoda, noix de Malabar Vaasa/Vrisha Justicia adathoda L.

 

It is an expectorant and is mostly used in respiratory conditions. It helps in the treatment of skin diseases. It is also used in jaundice, fevers, headache and urinary infections.

As already discussed, Mahathraiphalagrutham has 13 ingredients in total

All these ingredients should be washed well and dried up in shade.

For preparation of ghrithakalpana,

We use

  • Snehadravya (Cow’s ghee) – 1 Prastha
  • Dravadravya –

 

Decoction of Thriphala  – 1 Prastha

Swarasa of Vaasa            – 1 Prastha

Swarasa of Markava       – 1 Prastha

Ajaksheera(Goat’s milk) – 1 Prastha

  • Kalkadravya (For making paste, 1 Pala each)

Take the prescribed Kashaya, ghruta and kalkadravya in an earthen pot.  Make it boil and then cook in the open vessel with low fire. Reduce the quantity into the quantity of ghrutha. Make sure to mix it in between with a ladle. Also, the fire should be kept low to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the water. Continue cooking and stir in between. Check the Paaka as per Snehapakavidhi. Once the desired Paaka is attained, filter the ghruta and keep it in air tight glass bottles after cooling. Ghrutha can be used for a longer period of time without any preservatives.

Dosha Dooshya Predominance with roga marga.

Mahathraiphalaghrutham is Pitta-Kapha hara.

It acts on aabhyantara, madhyama and bahya rogamarga

Dosage and Usage of Mahathraiphalaghrutham

 Dosage:

Generally, it is prescribed in OP practise as 5-15ml once a day.

It is said in text as one Pala or 48 gm in a person with profound digestive fire.

It differs for Acchasnehapanasodhana) and vicharanasneha(samana)

It is used according to the Tarpanavidhi when used externally.   

Utilisation :

Ghrutham is advised to take in empty stomach, once the ingested food is digested well and aahaararasa is formed well.

 

Exercices et yoga.

As Mahathraiphalaghrutham targets mainly infections, only mild exercises are advised. Also, specific Yogacharya including nadisuddhi pranayama, suryanamaskara, bhujangaasana, is recommended.

Regular exercise helps improve the bioavailability of medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health.
